Dr. Mevorach's music covers many genres. While he considers himself a post-tonalist, many of his compositions are melodic in nature. He has composed music at all levels: Easy, Intermediate and Advanced. In fact, the pieces marked "Easy" can be construed as examples of "Educational Music", in that they are designed to teach the younger musician the fundamentals of music performance.
Dr. Mevorach has been called upon to conduct performances of many of his compositions. While studying at the University of Nebraska for his Doctor of Musical Arts degree, he conducted the premiere performances of Spacings III for Contrabassoon and Percussion and Vox Machina for Flute Ensemble. Earlier, when Dr. Mevorach was studying at the University of Miami for his Master of Music degree, he conducted the University of Miami Percussion Ensemble in a performance of his Three Meditations on the Desert, a work which was composed while Dr. Mevorach was living in a small town in the Negev Desert in Israel. He also conducted three performances, including one performance during Festival Miami, an international music festival held each year at the University of Miami, of Circle III for clarinet choir, a work which is spatial in nature, in that the performers are placed on the periphery of the audience. Audience members have the sensation of music swirling around them, the desired effect of the piece. Additionally, on November 8, 2007, he conducted the premiere of his Bring Me An Axe and a Spade for Soprano, Oboe and String Quartet. This performance took place at the University of Illinois with oboe professor John Dee and Friends. In fact, John Dee and Dr. Mevorach have been collaborating since the mid-1990s. In 1996, Professor Dee commissioned the composition Spacings II for Oboe and Percussion and premiered the work during another concert of Festival Miami. Most recently, Professor Dee has commissioned a duet for oboe and bassoon, the premiere of which will take place during the coming academic year, at the University of Illinois. Later this year and through early next year, Professor Dee will record a CD of all of Dr. Mevorach's works for oboe and oboe with other instruments and/or voices.
